UIBM manages the industrial property regulatory system in the framework of the Directorate General for Developing Productivity and Competitiveness (DGSPC) of the Ministry of Productive Activities.

In particular, at a national level, it receives applications for the recognition of various industrial property rights and relative documentation; it checks formalities and conducts a technical examination; the investigation, concession or rejection of applications received; examines and makes transcripts and notes and issues certifications and public information.
At an international level, it receives and checks international applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty, European patents, the Community registration of new plant varieties, Community and international trademarks and their transmission to the competent organizations; validation of European patents designating Italy; participation in international bodies.

The site is divided into two navigation areas: 1) the official Ufficio Italiano Brevetti e Marchi database, which is updated daily; 2) access to documents, information on the office's activities, forms, notices, news, articles offered by the editors, etc.
