Navik Mills launches premium coconut beverages in Sri Lanka with IPI’s Caliz aseptic carton brick
Navik Mills, one of Sri Lanka’s leading companies in the processing of coconut and coconut-based products, has chosen IPI as its system supplier for aseptic carton packaging solutions. The collaboration involves the installation and start-up of an aseptic filling line that is now fully operational and producing coconut-based beverages in 250 ml Caliz aseptic carton bricks. The project represents an important milestone for both companies. It is the first IPI installation in Sri Lanka and the country’s first premium aseptic Caliz carton brick line, supporting the launch of a new range of value-added coconut beverages and recipes, such as coconut-based juices combined with mango or orange. Founded with a strong focus on coconut products, Navik Mills has built a solid international presence over the years, exporting to more than 55 countries worldwide. The company is recognised as a key player in the coconut industry, with a broad portfolio that includes coconut milk, coconut water, creams, oils and other coconut derivatives. In recent years, Navik Mills has increasingly invested in product diversification and premium positioning, targeting international markets across Asia and Europe.
From coconut expertise to premium beverages in aseptic carton bricks
The project, successfully carried out by the IPI Technical Team, reflects IPI’s commitment, to ensure high quality standards, operational reliability and production flexibility. The adoption of aseptic technology allows beverages to be preserved with a long shelf life while maintaining taste and nutritional properties, without the use of preservatives, meeting the expectations of consumers increasingly oriented towards natural and healthy products.
The project and installation of the NSA Evo filling equipment were completed in a short timeframe, and the 250 ml Caliz aseptic line is already up and running, supporting ongoing commercial production. Beyond product development, Navik Mills relies exclusively on 100% locally sourced raw materials. This approach ensures an extremely low environmental impact throughout the product life cycle and confirms a sustainable and responsible production model closely linked to the territory.
First NSA EVO packaging line in Sri Lanka, first IPI line for Navik Mills
At the heart of the project is IPI’s NSA EVO aseptic filling machine combined with the MT121 cap applicator. Navik Mills chose the 250 ml Caliz carton package with tethered cap to support a premium brand image and align with evolving packaging expectations in both Asian and European markets. The choice of a tethered cap is particularly strategic, as tethered solutions are becoming a reference standard in many regions. By adopting Caliz with tethered cap from the outset, Navik Mills positions itself ahead of regulatory and consumer trends, while offering a modern, practical and user-friendly packaging experience. For IPI, this project represents a significant step in strengthening its presence in South Asia. The first installation in Sri Lanka confirms the relevance of IPI’s aseptic solutions and packaging formats for liquid food and beverage producers aiming to diversify their product portfolio and strengthen their positioning in competitive markets.
A partnership built on shared goals
By choosing IPI, Navik Mills partnered with a supplier known for its ability to listen, respond quickly to customer needs and deliver reliable aseptic solutions. With over 40 years of experience and the support of Oji Group, leader in Asia and the fifth-largest global player in paper-based packaging solutions, IPI provides long-term stability and technical expertise. The Caliz carton brick supports brand differentiation on shelf and reinforces the premium positioning of coconut-based beverages aimed at international consumers. For Navik Mills, this project marks a new chapter in expanding its coconut-based beverage portfolio. For IPI, it represents a strong reference case in Sri Lanka and a solid foundation for future growth in Asia, supported also by the recently announced new packaging material converting plant in Vietnam.
